“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.” – Buddha
As mentioned in previous posts, the three components of living an authentic life are: health and wellbeing, spirituality and personal development.
Being spiritually aligned means discovering the essence of your being and the deepest values by which you live by. You connect to a higher source of intelligence or power, identifying with something greater than the material world. Being spiritual becomes a way of life. People often embark on a spiritual path, devoting time to principles that bring them closer to their source. Prayer, meditation, yoga and self awareness are a few practices undertaken to connect to infinite intelligence.
When we’re spiritually aligned, we connect to the source of an intelligence which guides and creates the universe, including ourselves. There have been numerous studies conducted on the effects of prayer on healing and recovery. Hope and belief are two components of spiritual life often mentioned in texts as the basis to healing and wellbeing.
In the book Soul Medicine by Dr. Dawson Church and Larry Dossey, the author’s state, “that paying attention to your spiritual life is the most important thing you can do for your health.” They identify twelve characteristics common to people with a vibrant soul connection which include:
- Forgiveness
- Tolerance
- Serenity
- Faith
- Reason
- Hope
- Motivation
- Consistency
- Community
- Joy
- Gratitude
- Love
Aligning with spiritual truth means developing a profound belief—an inner knowing outside of the material realm we’ve come to know and trust. One begins to develop and be guided by other faculties such as intuition and synchronicities. We are not beings limited to our five senses. Meditation allows one to understand and commune with the deeper self, to know the essence of their spirit. You discover purpose and meaning to your life via self discovery. Realising that in order to live a truly authentic life, rich and prosperous with health and happiness you must connect to that source which nourishes you.
Whilst the concept of spirituality may seem confronting and outside the understanding of many, the ideas and principles remain grounded in goodness. You need not become a hippie, surrender your worldly possessions or live in a commune in order to realise a spiritual life. Some of the world’s wealthiest people are spiritually aligned. They appreciate to have arrived to their current place, some force beyond their knowledge had to be guiding them.
This knowledge brings peace and contentment to our lives. When we stop resisting the energy of life, we come from a place of allowing instead of resisting and struggling. We’re receptive to each moment unfolding in our lives and surrender to it. Spirituality allows us to have a deeper understanding of our place in this purposeful universe. We are at peace within ourselves, creating a safe house for the source to commune with us. In doing so, we give up needing to strive and become – instead the more we let go of, the more flows into our life.
Examine your current beliefs about spirituality. If you seek to be more than you are, what aspect of your life must give way to allow this belief to yield or unfold? Who do you need to become? What do you need to let go of in order to be that person? Are you willing to become that person?

Thank you for sharing. Can you help me to understand somethimg? A week ago I felt a deep energy shift then I heard “your soul has aligned”. Each day and every second I find myself feeling powerful as I repeat “my soul has aligned”. It feels very loving peaceful and makes me feel incredibly confident. I also notice than when I ask for something whilst meditating it happens more instantly. I have also noticed that I can see relationships for what they truly are and can see how I’m not being good to myself by sticking with them as they are not within this new alignment. So what does it mean when you get to this soul alignment stage? I feel that not many people get to this stage? It feels very special. Jan
Hi Jan, it seems you experienced some powerful energy shifts and want to know more about them. I do not have enough knowledge in these areas to advise you. I would suggest you consult with a spiritual teacher in your region who has knowledge with what you experienced, since they are better able to guide you. Good luck! Tony
